Hi all,
I've added Bob, who has been involved in the London (Randomness) Guide,
as a committer and co-maint on CPAN, so don't be surprised if you see
activity from him.
Cheers,
Dominic.

This came up on discussion over on openguides-oxford. We'd like to be
able to put a distinctive style on pages for places that have now
closed. Rather than hardcoding this for a "Closed" or "Now Closed"
category, Dom and I thought a better solution would be to simply add
classes for all categories and locales that a page is in.
So for example,
http://oxford.openguides.org/wiki/?The_Jam_Factory
would have HTML:
<div id="content" class="cat:baby_changing_facilities cat:free_wifi cat:pubs
cat:restaurants cat:wifi loc:park_end_street loc:west_central">
rather than the simple <div id="content"> that's currently there.
Thoughts? Objections?

Yep, though having talked briefly to Duncan Parkes a couple of days
later, I think Leaflet may be less hassle to get up and running than
I'd expected - he said that from the point he started looking at the
documentation, it only took him about 10 minutes to get something
working! So I'm going to look at that properly (at some point within
the next week) before I make the final decision.
I've cced this to openguides-dev as it's relevant to other guides too.

Plans are firming up for my trip to Oxford! Original announcement is here:
http://urchin.earth.li/pipermail/openguides-oxford/2012/000098.html
but essentially I am spending a week in the city from this Friday,
during which time Janet, Owen, and I will be updating and improving
the data in the Oxford Guide.
This Saturday lunchtime/afternoon (3 March), some of us will be
gathering at the Jam Factory:
http://oxford.openguides.org/wiki/?The_Jam_Factory
to chat about the things we want to do with the Oxford Guide, and
probably other OpenGuides-related things as well. If you're within
reach of Oxford, why not come along? We'll be there from noon until
at least 3pm (happy to commit to staying later if people want).
The Jam Factory is very close to the railway station, it's
child-friendly and has wheelchair access, and does food including
vegetarian options. If you want my mobile number for co-ordinating on
the day, just let me know offlist.

Hey folks!-
Just wanted to let you know that we've made the first real release for
the LocalWiki project. If you were into OpenGuides, you'll definitely
like LocalWiki:
http://localwiki.org/
Help us spread the word!
Best,
Philip
So as I mentioned in the other thread, I have a new OpenGuides-based
project in development. I would like to use OpenStreetMap tiles for
this rather than the default Google Maps ones. I've got that part
working thanks to this example:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Google_Maps_Example
but I would like to have the tiles _without_ the automatic addition of
pub/restaurant/shop markers (like the ones shown here:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=52.204781&lon=0.128992&zoom=18
).
Does anyone happen to know if there's a way to do this? I'm hoping the
answer is as simple as "use another tileserver, e.g. this one"...

Hi Kake
I think that is a bit unfair Kake. Cityultima is also an open guide to
London, and there are literally thousands of external relevant links on it
Of course I would like a few links to some of my london relevant sites
on the open guide to London, just like everyone else who has added
london based links. I do think it is unfair for you to call it spam.
But as i have suggested to Dominic before i joined the mailing list, I
would be very sad to see such a pioneering site go into lock down. When
we first started Cityultima which was around the same time as open
guides , the small team we had shared the same ideals. A semantically
based open guide that was all about the real london, and not the
theaters and tourist attractions that are on the big commercial sites.
I have also come to believe that the small grass roots community led
sites have a much better chance of doing well against the big names such
as londontown or visitlondon, if they work together. And in that regard
as I already spend a little time each day approving edits on cityultima,
was more than happy to approve edits on the london guide to keep it up
and running. And there is most definately a need for it, as you have
suggested. It isn't a fork for RLG but completely seperate format.
Regards Paul
