Hiya,
FWIW, I think those guides where the navbar is included on the front
page (and not tucked away in a banner bar thing) are more prone to
looking cluttered than those where it isn't.

This would be neat. In the past I've had one particular node take up 9
of the 10 slots on the front page of the Nottingham site, because it's
fairly easy for people unfamilar with OpenGuides to miss the 'edit type'
option on the edit form, and then go back and keep making small
corrections to their new page.
2) Only show node names, not change summary or editor.
The actual details
off the change are best left on the actual Recent Changes page (which is a
"geek thing").
I'm not sure what I think about this. I guess as long as there's a link
to the recent changes page, it doesn't matter that much if this
information's missed out.
So, in effect, it would be "ten most recently
modified nodes" (or maybe
five?).
Out of interest, would it be hard to make it "N most recently modified
nodes", with N as a config option (and 5 or 10 as a sane default)? I
reckon the number that looks best will depend on the layout of a given
site's front page, and the number of changes worth showing will depend
(a bit, at least) on how frequently that site is updated.
Cheers,
James.
