Hello. Apparently the OpenGuides project is five years old this month. We should have a meetup! Is anyone willing to cat-herd for this? If not, then I will do it, but I'm really quite busy at the moment so it would be lovely if someone else could. All you need to do is find a date some time in the next few months that as many people as possible can make (and it would be best if it's one that me, Dom, Ivor, and Earle can all manage), choose between Oxford and London, and then ask Dom (Oxford) or me (London) to pick the venue.
If you've been wondering what you can do for the project, this is something!

I think 5 years is a good milestone to celebrate. I've got some general questions, which are not just for Kake, but for anyone to answer or present their opinions and sentiments.
Which month do we want to hold the event in? (sooner = fewer people, my preference is for June or July)
Is this going to be purely a social event, or will there be an agenda and/or some hacking involved?
Can we use the online meeting booker thingy that's been used last time to help decide on the date?
Also, what size of event do you have in mind, and how far to cast the feline nets?
I'm thinking of places / groups where we could publicise it:
* London.pm * openstreetmap * Multimap and ex-Multimap people we know * UKUUG/GLLUG/Lonix * Freedomlabs * Indymedia
anywhere else geeks we know hang out.
Ivor.
Note that my list email address has changed owing to large volumes of spam on the old one.

June or July is good for me, but so is May. The last full week of a month is best for me as I have them booked off work for the foreseeable future.

Purely social. I don't want to put anyone off coming because they fear being expected to be useful.

We can - but I'd advise against it as it's not been very effective in the past.

Something along the lines of a pubmeet. Just the people who have OpenGuides-love in common, meeting up for some nice food and/or nice beer, and a chance to catch up with OpenGuiders you've not seen in a while.
I'm thinking of places / groups where we could publicise it:
- London.pm
Yes - because London.pm people have been quite enthusiastic about RGL recently.
- openstreetmap
Possibly - though are there any OSM people who're interested in OpenGuides who won't already be on the og dev list?
- Multimap and ex-Multimap people we know
Why Multimap and not other mapping companies?
- UKUUG/GLLUG/Lonix
Possibly - see OSM comment.
- Freedomlabs
Who?
- Indymedia
Why?

Since nobody has volunteered then I guess it's down to me. That's OK - I'm less busy now than I was at the start of the month.
Can everyone interested in attending an OpenGuides meet in the UK some time in the next four months or so reply to me offlist and let me know:
- whether you prefer Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays, in general - which areas of the UK you would probably be able to attend a meet in - whether there are any specific dates you definitely can't make - anything else I need to take into consideration in choosing a date/venue
The meet will be purely social. If it's on a Friday then it will be in the evening; if it's on a Saturday or Sunday then it will probably start in the afternoon and continue through to the evening. It will almost certainly be in either Oxford or London, but I'm willing to consider other places.
Also, if you have made substantial contributions to OpenGuides but are not interested in attending a meet wherever or whenever it is, please let me know that so I don't pester you individually. The "pester individually" list includes Dom, Earle, and Ivor at the moment - let me know if I should add anyone else to this list.
Apologies to people outside the UK, but it has to be in the UK if I'm going to organise it, as I don't have a passport at the moment.
