I'm new to the list, I learned about OpenGuides via the perl.com article published recently.
Welcome, Troy!
So I guess that's my research task: Looking into whether there is an approval mechanism already implemented in OG.
No, there isn't. Some people have talked about it, but none of them have written any actual code. It's not something I'm personally all that excited by, so I'll be unlikely to do it while there are so many other things that need doing. I'd be happy to answer any questions from someone who wanted to write it. The feature would of course need to be optional.
I've also noticed that the OG sites listed as examples looking remarkably similar, so I'm hoping to find out how much the template system can be modified.
Some people have custom templates. I'm not too happy about this since the templates do have functionality in them and can have bugs. I can fix a bug in a template but I can't force people to install it over their custom one.
I would like to move towards this: http://csszengarden.com/
I've already noticed that OG requires PostgreSQL, whereas I've used MySQL in my work so far.
Nonononono. Where did you read that? OpenGuides can run on Postgres, MySQL and SQLite.
