This is an "old" post from the time when the lists were broken. Some points are still relevant though.

You may have noticed that the openguides.org mailing lists have been
broken for at least a week. This is now fixed, but any messages that
you sent and didn't see come back to you have been *lost*, so please
re-send them. I'm very sorry about this.

This is interesting! Can anyone think of a way that we can do some kind of
cross-linking with them? It seems to be a complimentary project.

Subject: Wikitravel and OpenGuides
Hey, folks. My name is Evan Prodromou, and I'm one of the two founders of
Wikitravel.
http://www.wikitravel.org/
Wikitravel is a project to create a free (copyleft), complete, up-to-date
and reliable world wide travel guide. It's a Wiki, like OpenGuides, so
everything is edited and created and illustrated and such by users just
drifting in off the Internet.
A friend pointed me to the OpenGuides site, and I have to say I like it. I
think there's some overlap in what we're covering, but I'm not sure how
much. You don't seem as similar as, say, CapitanCook.
Anyways, I wanted to say "hi". I don't know crappo about Oxford or
Birmingham, so I don't think I have a lot to contribute, but I just figured
I'd send a ping.
Good luck,
~ESP

Just so I get this out there before I forget. Tom and I had a brief
chat about new OpenGuides installs at the London.pm social meeting on
Thursday night. Tom, correct me if I'm misrepresenting you. Tom
thinks that it should be incredibly easy to create a new OpenGuides
install for a new city. I think there should be a deliberate small
hurdle to cross before Earle or I agree to create a new guide hosted
at openguides.org. Here's my reasoning.
An empty-ish guide with out of date information looks lame.
This makes people think OpenGuides is lame.
I am not sure that a new OpenGuide with fewer than - say - four
regular contributors is going to do anything but languish and die.
I'd like to know what other people think about this issue.

Folks,
I'm glad that OG 0.28 is live in London and a few places, as it has
given me a chance to update the documentation on the new search
syntax with real examples :). Please give me feedback on this new
syntax.
I also notice that the "Instructions" link on the supersearch page always
links back to the London guide. Is this a good thing? At least we can
guarantee that the examples will work ;).
An alternative would be to have a page on the generic openguides.org
site... which leads me on to how we can keep pages on here up to date. Could
we make this a wiki? Perhaps a wiki with restricted access to edit. CGI::Wiki::Simple?
Also, we could do with a repository for templates, style sheets, plugins, etc. so
that OG sites can download, upload and share them.
My thoughts for the day.
By the way, I've also changed the NOT search to use '-' instead of '!' acting on
feedback from a couple of people at Thursday's London.pm. This will be in 0.29,
and I will add it to the search instructions when 0.29 is live.
In the mean time, I have been keeping the SuperSearch.pm POD in line with the
syntax changes.
Ivor.
wasn't sure if you were all tied into this:

would appreciate help or suggestions re: GPS
'course it may not be necessary if the above is any sense :-)

"A web by people with learning difficulties"
I've just set up a new OG site, using SQLite, but trying to save a page
causes this error:
Unhandled error: [DBD::SQLite::db do failed: at
/home/earle/openguides.org/lib/CGI/Wiki/Store/Database.pm line 381. ] at
/home/earle/openguides.org/lib/CGI/Wiki.pm line 629
Anyone know what's going on and what I should do to fix it?
