Hi all, I'm interested in starting a new wiki guide for Seattle, Washington, USA. I was originally thinking of doing this by myself using MediaWiki (in a way similar to WikiTravel), but then I learned about OpenGuides through WikiTravel, and so it seems this might be a better way.
I wanted to see what's involved in starting a new guide (e.g. would you you host it at your openguides server or do I provide my own, etc). I'm interested in what templates etc you have for starting a guide, tips for getting people involved, etc.
Hopefully this is enough to get started!
Thanks, Matias
hello,

we started an OpenGuide to san francisco a little while ago; earle kindly pointed the dns for sf.openguides.org to our server. we haven't really publicised it yet, still dickering around with the map view. when we do, we'll send it round the local cliques - dorkbot, indymedia et al.
i made a lot of scattered changes to the distro to account for 'localisation' which were pretty hacky - e.g. i changed CGI::Wiki::Plugin::Locator::UK to use our free geocoder service (enter any US address and it'll have a good stab at inferring the lat and long via the TIGER data) rather than writing a new Locator::US ... and made some changes to Openguides::Template which should be config optionsrather than hardcoded
so, i'd be happy to send a tarball of my hacked version 0.30, but it might be better to run with 0.31 as it has improved RDF support / maybe internationalisation?
also i'd be up for finding the time to work on config-driven internationalisation for a putative 0.32 (or even 0.4 ;) )
take care, all....

Yes please! I'm working on integrating OG with UTM and have already written a plugin. I'm curious as to what the hacks were to get 0.30 working with SF map data.

Good. We should work together on this, then.
