Martin Ling was talking about getting an Edinburgh OpenGuide up some time ago, but I believe work pressures got in the way.
The single most important thing you need for a successful OpenGuide is a core team of at least three (preferably more) dedicated people who will keep adding stuff to the guide. Without this your guide will just fall into disuse and become yet another abandoned website. Occasional and casual contributors are important too, but without the regular input from the core team you will never reach critical mass.
