Relatedly, I'm currently working on a complete redoing of the edit page - I'm moving everything into <div>s and getting rid of the tables. This will make it much easier for people to style the page as they prefer.
This is now done, and can be viewed at e.g. http://london.randomness.org.uk/wiki.cgi?action=edit;id=Sandbox
Note that the appearance there is all handled by the stylesheet; you can make it look totally different if you prefer. Note in particular that it lets you hide certain fields if you like; for example, on RGL we decided that the Fax field was useless, so we hid it with CSS.
This also lets you do the CSS tooltips that Bob mentioned on #openguides a while ago: http://www.askthecssguy.com/2007/03/form_field_hints_with_css_and.html
See a rough draft of them in action at e.g. http://morerandomness.org.uk/openguides/wiki.cgi?id=Sandbox;action=edit
I'll be committing a version of this to svn within the next few days; and once I've done that, I'd really appreciate it if those of you with customised edit forms could check it out and see if it lets you do what you want using the standard templates.
