The "killer search" for a mobile implementation would be "find me all pubs that serve food in Locale $bar/without 100m of coordinates $foo" and so on. I don't know if that can be adequately expressed in preset queries. I suspect not.
A wap version is the answer! really it is. wap isnt dead. honest.
and actaully wouldnt be that hard to implement.
