There would be benefits providing metadata in the RDF, as "refers to", enhancing the "Semantic Web" options.
I see this as broadening to a bigger topic: '''citation'''.
Besides just presenting a URL, there could be options for including text and/or data from another place, suitably attributed. This mechanism could also deal with images and photo attribution.
