How do I 'manually merge'?

This means that the someone's added something to the page since you loaded up the edit form. If it just let you save your changes then it would overwrite the other person's changes, so instead it gives you the edit boxes with what the other person wrote, and you need to add your changes in to that.
It would be nice if it could do this automatically, but this is a slightly hard thing to do and so we haven't written the code to do that yet.

Yes, just ignore that - it will have saved it anyway. We will be doing something about this problem real soon now.

That message means you'll have to copy your new changes (added/modified text) and paste them into the current version of the page yourself.

This is a separate error that you've run into, and one that nags at us periodically, when something's gone wrong with the site database index. We need to find out why this is happening. In the meantime, if you ever see this message, please mail me *personally* (this list has seen enough "the indexes are corrupted again" messages, I think), and I'll reindex the site.
