I agree with Ivor's suggestion of one master page covering general aspects of the chain, with pages for individual pubs where there is specific information needed. I would like the chain reference to appear in the header to page (like category / locale ). There are (at least ) 3 ways to do it :
Use a category "Chain xxxxx" e.g. [Category Chain Starbucks]
Create a new type of entry (like locale) so that chain name appears in
the header as a sep line.
- Use ordinary pages and link by hand.
http://london.openguides.org/index.cgi?Penderel%27s_Oak%2C_WC1V_7HP uses the 3rd way (not meant to be an allusion to T Blair) but means there is a pseudo header area at the top.
I've so far been doing things in the same way: http://london.openguides.org/index.cgi?Eat http://london.openguides.org/index.cgi?Game
And have been linking back manually, and putting lists into the Chain page...this is hassle :)
My pref would be 1 (and 2 if it turns out to be used a lot). An advantage of this is you automatically get the indexing down from chain to branches.
I like number 1 for its "not changing the codebase" simplicity. But option 2 would be useful if we wanted to have another grouping mechanism outside of category...although as it can be emulated through using category it could be considered unnecessary.
I would say that using number 1 should work nicely and if it turns out to not be popular we can always change it to work differently as time goes on. I like wikis :)
BTW - there is quite a lot of duplication between the official and pseudo header on this page. Is this a historic thing ?
Afair yup - the pseudo header was the standard info that we put at the top of pub/restaurant pages before we got the metadata.
