Lancaster's guide is down because I had problems with database load (similar to London's, I think) and partly because I haven't had the time to keep it going. If anyone ever found the solution to the database problem, it's not a big job to bring things back online (it's all still there, I just renamed the index CGI script)
Did you check that all the required indexes are there in the database? ISTR they weren't being properly created in MySQL. If you are running on MySQL then this would be the thing to check - I'm not sure off the top of my head what the MySQL syntax is for showing this, but I expect someone else can chime in here.
