I run a trac instance that was getting tons of spam. I set up a
default username/password on the system -- and put the username and password 
in the 'AuthName'.  

The spam stopped. Technically, the solution was no better -- but the
additional cost did change the amount of spam I got. OpenID may have the
same affect. 

It may not prevent spam, but it may help limit it.
